moodle-lmsMoodle is the world’s most popular learning management system. Moodle is flexible and scaleable software designed to help educators create interactive and collaborative online learning experiences. Moodle originated in Australia around a decade ago and has since been internationalised in more than 200 countries and 100 languages. The official community site has more than a million registered users.

There are many ways in which Moodle can be effectively used. These include
staff compliance, the delivery of online courses, workplace assessment, continuing professional development and induction training. Being open source software, there is a great deal of community support toward the development of third-party plugins to extend Moodle’s core functionality.

Moodle is free to use without licensing costs, however, it does take a degree of technical expertise to install, configure and secure the software on a web server. Once deployed, it can be easily managed by a qualified system administrator.

Moodle’s key administrative functions include the ability to control authentication, assign roles and permissions, perform bulk user actions, change site appearance, manage accounts, automate course backups and generate various reports. Moodle enables integration with external systems, e-commerce plugins and SCORM compliance. Moodle is proactive with respect to data security and information privacy of its users, hence, patches are released on a regular basis and there are global settings that can be configured by the system administrator.

Course creators can add online activities and resources intended for their students. Moodle’s standard activities include assignment, forum, chat, blog , messaging, quiz and wiki. The learning sequence may be totally non-linear or controlled so learners engage with online course objects in a predetermined fashion. How to stop the flood of election junk mail?

without comments

Wherever you live in the world, whether it is a Federal, State, Presidential or Local Council election, your mailbox will groan under the weight of materials aimed at winning your vote. It may be the digital age, but it seems that a piece of paper in your letterbox is still considered the most effective way of getting a message across.

While an informed electorate is essential to the democratic process, there appears to be a glut of over-sending of junk mail for political purposes – and no clear way on how to solve this. What’s worse, the content of most of the political flyers is simply mudslinging about their opponents with little to no intellectual substance. Is anyone else reminded of children in the playground?

How can you help stop this unnecessary waste of resources? Imagine the strain on our environment and the large volume of greenhouse gases generated from all the trees cut down, printing and transport of the materials. Grab a cup of tea or your water bottle and let’s get down to it.

We know in Australia that material that is deemed to be political, educational, religious and charitable is exempt from “No Junk Mail” signed letterboxes according to standards conducted by the Australian Catalogue Association. So there is no way to stop it being posted in your postbox along with the other junk mail catalogues enticing you to buy all sorts of things you don’t really need. It is probably the same in other countries.

Step 1. Incorrectly addressed political mail
A lot of of your mail may be addressed to former occupants of the house. You need to “return this to sender” with the note “no longer at this address”.

Step 2. Contact every political party or politician that is mailing you
There is no central database so you will need to call the office of each individual sender and ask to be removed from their mailing list. Remember to be nice! You catch more bees with honey than vinegar.

Step 3. National Standard to stop political junk mail
Write a letter to the Electoral Commission asking them to implement a National Standard to limit the number of pieces each political party is allowed to put in each household’s letterbox.

Step 4. Polling day
Don’t forget to recycle any materials you are given on the day – often the Greens Party has a box at the booths for such materials on polling day!

SEO Perth for Database Growth

without comments

Several areas could include opt-in notices on your website where you give away free information such as newsletters, reports or bulletins in return for their key contact details. The Yellow Pages directory contains contact details for businesses whilst the target’s own website may also list senior company executives and email addresses. Some industry associations have directory listings of their membership base and sometimes publish this information on the web.

We have already talked about sponsored parties including sporting groups and their databases of consumers and business prospects. You may not be able to gain direct access to these databases but you may be able to provide copy to the sponsored party so that you can reach them.

Your business should prioritise the building of a prospect database and it should be continually worked on to improve your chances of success at below-the-line activities. You can dust this database off with each new campaign that you intend to run. The database can be a valuable source of reference when you have new products to launch or you need to target a specific audience for the launch of a new product or an invitation to your latest workshop or seminar.

Staying in contact with existing customers is important because these can be a valuable source of referrals and leads and they may wish to use your services again in the future.

One of the pitfalls of direct marketing can be in maintaining the database itself. People and businesses tend to be on the move and before you know it, a portion of your database of contacts can become out of date. You may also find the need to remove duplicated entries or avoid contacting people under the age of 18 if they are not an appropriate market

Once you have your database, it is simply a matter of doing a mail merge to run off a series of direct mail letters. This can be done in either Microsoft Word or Excel and is a relatively easy task to complete.

If you’re using Google to build a database, then you should probably talk to the leading seo perth company. Search Tempo will help you get better Google rankings to start the process. Contact the perth seo leaders today.

New Personal Property Securities Act – Is your business affected?

without comments

Legislation labelled the Personal Property Securities Act (PPSA) came into effect in Australia on January 30, 2012, and may have an impact on a number of Australian businesses.

The difficulty in explaining this area of law and the many types of securities that are affected, mean many Australian businesses are not becoming familiar with the impact of the legislation. In particular, businesses that have for many years employed a tried and tested means of securing interests in certain personal property could find that their system no longer provides adequate protection of their interests.

Previously your company might have relied on what were variously called romalpa clauses or retention of title clauses. If that is so you are most likely to be impacted by the new Act, and need to ensure you understand how the new Personal Property Securities Register works, so as to protect your interests.

Businesses that may be impacted include those:

- Involved in selling goods on credit and who have previously relied on “Retention of Title” clauses
- Financiers seeking clarification of the true assets, security and debt position of a client
- Businesses that lease plant and equipment, vehicles or virtually any other assets
- Companies that provide goods on consignment
- Business owners who are wanting to refinance and need to provide certainty of title in assets

Why do we need it?
Although many businesses and advisors were accustomed to the existing system, it was recognised that the previous mix of inconsistent and old-fashioned state-by-state securities arrangements combined with the Corporations Act rules for companies and other Federal rules were inefficient and would work much more effectively for all parties if they were brought under a single unified approach. The result is a detailed, and hopefully all-encompassing, code which draws on the systems that are in place in countries such as New Zealand and Canada.

PPSA and its operational Register will cover both companies and individuals. It’s based on the idea that it is in the best interests of anyone dealing with a company or an individual, who may extend credit to that company or individual, to enable them to gain an accurate picture of whether apparent assets are in fact owned by that company or individual or just have a registered interest over them.

What should I do?
There are a great number of legal and non-legal articles available on the internet which can help you to gain a better idea of whether your business is likely to be affected by the new arrangements. Businesses located in North Queensland, particularly Mackay, should gain advice from a trusted local legal advisor who has experience in business and commercial property matters.

This article is not legal advice and must not be relied on relation to any specific legal situation you may have. You should ALWAYS seek the advice of a qualified lawyer before taking any action in relation to your personal or business legal situation.

Looking for mackay solicitors, lawyers mackay or solicitors mackay ? Need advice about PPSA? Kelly Legal has built a formidable and experienced team of Mackay and Brisbane based lawyers who now offer a range of legal services throughout Queensland in all areas of law.

Are you neglecting your marriage or relationship?

without comments

Remember the days when you first came across your wife or husband? Those wonderful romantic sexy days when you just enjoyed being in each other’s company and could chat for hours. You would do those special things for each other just to see the look of pleasure on his/her face. They were the days when your relationship was rich and vibrant and you felt fully alive because of it.

Now the “Limerance” stage is long gone, as it always does………. but have you evolved into an even better version of a deeper fuller love? …..Or have you been taking your loved one for granted and busying yourself with other “more pressing” things, like jobs and children and work around the home, and finances and friends?

One of the most prevalent issues I find in my private practice as a Psychologist specializing in Relationships is a “natural neglect” in secure relationships.

Even though everything in your shared life is based on a foundation of your love for each other, and your shared life, it’s all too easy to take for granted that your relationship will always be there, without realizing that it, too, needs attention and nurturing.

Perhaps you could converse with your partner and ask him/her how satisfied he or she is in your relationship, on a rough scale of 1 to 10. Then follow it with the more important question of “What would have to happen to make it a 10 for you?”

Keeping your relationship alive and healthy needs constant attention, but not only does it make for a more satisfying relationship, but is one of the most enduring aspects of a life well lived.

In the twilight years of one’s life, thoughts more often than not turn to how treated others, rather than how much money will I die with.

If you’ve let your relationship get out of hand, a relationship Psychologist can show you, in a few sessions, how to bring back the vibrancy, chemistry and love again.

The Hart Centre is a group of 51 Psychologists Australia wide who specialize in relationship counselling and marriage counselling. We have 15 Psychologists located throughout Sydney, so there is sure to be one near you. Phone the Hart Centre on 1300 830 552 for more details.

Solar Power Panels – Save Money While You Save the Environment

without comments

It’s not surprising that new methods of power are setting the standard for electricity generation. Solar power is just one of the sources many are investing in and using in their daily lives. Although the idea has been around for several years, finding a practical method to harness the sun’s energy has been elusive until recent years. In fact, the very first solar cell was invented in the 19th century, but lacked interest from the public at large.

Modern solar power panels are merely a light-collecting device which converts light into an electric current. Environmentally-minded people and the science community have patiently awaited the acceptance of solar energy by the majority of people, however, it has been slow to become accepted for many reasons. One of the main reasons solar power didn’t become widely recognised in the beginning was due to the high demand of coal-based fuels. Coal was widely available and cost-effective for many years. A growing industrial nation such as the United States, knew coal to be readily accessible and cheap to convert into useful fuels, but the future of fossil energy would soon be in doubt.

The advent of scientific studies that suggested carbon-based pollution was at the core of worsening environmental conditions forced law makers -and public opinion- to alter. The gas shortage of the 1970′s was the beginning of the end for the longevity of coal as a source of energy. Rising gas and oil prices have many calling to have more oil wells drilled, while others want to incorporate the use of solar power panels.

There are many advantages to using solar energy. For one, it helps to reduce carbon emissions, which will lead to a far cleaner environment. And the other compelling reason to use solar power is the cost savings that average users will experience. The most popular way to use solar power currently is by having solar panels installed on your home. You will have seen houses with one or two rows of panels mounted on the sunny side of rooftops. Many home builders are even offering the installation of solar panels to entire communities, where each has solar power panels incorporated into the infrastructure.

It’s often thought that residential solar panels provide enough energy to supply the individual’s electrical demand. However, this is not normally the case. Power generated from panels installed on a home actually becomes part of the greater power supply in the surrounding area. What you’re doing is collecting energy and then transferring most of that energy back into the grid for use where it’s needed the most. Because you are providing a positive gain of electricity back into the grid, you are provided with substantial discounts on your regular power account.

You can also collect and use solar energy just for your home’s utilisation, but this requires a significant investment of back-up batteries and systems to store and deliver the power. This might work for a smaller house or holiday property with small electrical needs, but a standard home would not collect enough power without having a large bank of solar power panels. This isn’t ideal for most people as there isn’t the space or desire to set up a large number of panels.

Saving money is always an effective motivation for encouraging people to consider solar power, however, when you can save money and be eco-friendly at the same time, you have many more reasons to incorporate solar technology into our everyday lives.

Solar power from solar panels is becoming an acceptable way of saving money on electricity over the long term. If you want true value solar systems, see what is offered by Todae Solar.

Typical Legal Practice Areas of a Queensland Regional Law Firm

without comments

Following on from the previous item, another set of most commonly provided areas of law within a law firm will be described here. Covered in the first article were business and agricultural structures and arrangements, family and relationship law and not for profit. Leading regional law firms also provide services in the areas of property and conveyancing. This area involves acting for people who are buying or selling land and residential or business property. Most people do not realise the varying range of processes which are involved in this area. Your lawyers may review a contract, keep a record of key dates, check on your financial requirements, help with transfer duty and the payment of this, organise and attend the settlement, advise the council on the change of ownership, and liaise with your bank.

Commercial and Property Law
Commercial and Property Law involves acting for people when they are developing property, or buying or selling rural property, industrial or commercial enterprises. Many of the processes are the same as for Property and Conveyancing, but can also include business structuring, advice on security, guarantees and loan documentation, information on consolidations or subdivisions and advice on land tax, rates, ST and other taxes.

Environmental and Development Law
This area of law may be needed if there are any concerns regarding the use of the environment or the impact that building or running a business may have on the environment. Solicitors can act for the local government in interpretation of local laws, and advise regarding civil litigation claims and freedom of information issues. For private clients, the firm may offer advice on government legislation, and local law and planning.

Native Title
Due to decisions in the High Court during the 1990s, there may be Native Title over land that rural and mining clients will need advice on. With many grazing and term leases coming due for renewal over Qld, this is becoming a larger part of a law firm’s service provided to rural clients.

Tax Effective Estate Planning and Testamentary Trusts
Every family and financial situation is different from another. Proactive Accounting versus Reactive Accounting

without comments

While the nature of their work gives many the impression that all accountants are created equal this is simply not the case. Many people believe accounting advice, particularly to businesses, consists simply of entering invoices and receipts and completing a tax return.

And, truth be told, that is the case with many who practice “reactive accounting”.

By reactive accounting we mean those accountants, and accountants turned business advisors, who simply rely on the annual nature of tax returns and the general sluggishness of people to change advisors to maintain their business. They neither seek out new client opportunities nor work with their clients throughout the year to ensure they are placed in the best position for reducing tax liabilities, increasing profitability and ensuring business growth.

Unfortunately many individuals and business owners have no idea that there is a better option. Even today with an enormous amount of choice available to individuals and business in every type of product and service it is remarkable how loyal business owners can be to a service provider who, while probably a “good bloke”, is doing very little to add value to the business.
For people looking for good quality Toowoomba Accountants for a business you absolutely must have an accounting firm that offers a proactive approach to advising you on your accounting, taxation, superannuation and business growth issues.

A proactive accounting firm is one that provides a whole year, whole business approach. That is, they understand that your success is important to their continued business success and they provide regular advice and information to your business that adds significant value to your bottom line by addressing both costs and income.

A proactive accounting firm in Toowoomba understands that running your company in a highly competitive and challenging business environment is a challenging and time consuming experience, whether the economic situation is good or bad.

A top quality accounting firm or business advisor will work with you throughout the year and on issues throughout your business. This might include:
* providing strategies for minimising input costs including tax
* providing strategies and implementation advice for increase your profit margin
* advising you on business growth strategies or undertaking business strategic planning
* giving long-term and big picture advice that is aimed at getting your to financial independence as quickly and safely as possible.

Often the growth in a proactive accounting firm will outstrip their reactive colleagues and result in the firm developing a whole new service line dedicated to business improvement services.

The sorts of specific services you can expect to receive from a business improvement service at a proactive accounting firm include:
- financial report preparation
- marketing plans and strategies
- advising and assisting in the completion of grant and other government funding opportunities
- business acquisition assessment and profitability/growth potential due diligence
- input cost advice across online, telecoms, marketing, staff, premises and materials
- workforce management and productivity

By choosing proactive, rather than reactive, accountants, Toowoomba businesses can give themselves an edge that will help you achieve your business and financial goals and make sure you keep more of your hard earned money – rather than giving it to the tax office.

LED Downlights – Why are they so Popular?

without comments

When it comes to energy-efficient lighting, LED downlighting is the latest trend. With the advancement in technology, lighting has come-of-age with the availability of LED downlights. Today, more people are beginning to discover the different benefits of using this lighting product.

An LED downlight is proven to yield impressive energy-saving qualities, making conventional incandescent and fluorescent bulbs pale in comparison. Now you can use far less power. While others discuss the higher price of LED downlights, this cost can definitely be recovered in a short amount of time as consumers are assured of saving a significant amount of money on their electricity bills. You will enjoy excellent quality of light for your home or building, at a great monthly power rate.

Here are some of the reasons that make more and more consumers change to LED:

1. LED downlights are very energy-efficient. To be specific, they use almost 90% less energy compared to incandescent downlights, and almost 50% less energy than flourescents. This feature means significant savings in power.

2. LED downlights are long-lasting. They will last tens of thousands of hours, which is more or less equivalent to a lifespan of 25 years with normal usage.

3. LED require no maintenance or changing. Your LED downlight won’t burn out, but will simply go dim at the end of its lifespan. When this happens -after at least twenty years of usage- this is the sign that it needs replacement.

Available colours of LED downlights

LED downlights are perfect if you want to enjoy a light that is similar to daylight. They are available in two main colours: warm white and neutral white.

If you want the yellow glow that is similar to that produced by the incandescent bulb, choose the warm white LED downlights. If you prefer neutral or daylight colour that is given by a fluorescent lamp, then choose neutral white. Make sure that you choose the right colour by checking the product. Basically, a 2700K colour temperature means the LED emits a yellowish glow. You must get one with a colour temperature of 3500K if you want a neutral-white light.

Needless to say, LED downlights and other LED-based lighting in general are definitely of benefit to the environment -far more than conventional or other known energy-efficient lighting alternatives. For instance, LED downlights do not contain a trace of toxic mercury; this means that there are no environmental hazards to worry about if you need to replace them.

However, you need to buy only quality LED downlight products. The LED lighting industry is still fairly new, and there are unscrupulous manufacturers producing inferior quality LED products. By choosing superior LED downlights, you are assured of not only superb quality in color of light and brightness, but also the best in energy-efficiency.

Looking for deals direct to save on your LED lights purchase? Dealsdirect have a large range of LED downlights that save money and look great
